(Here’s a quote from the beginning of a letter attributed to St. Barnabas)

“The Lord has given us these three basic doctrines:
hope for eternal life, the beginning and end of our faith;
justice, the beginning and end of righteousness; and
love, which bears cheerful and joyous witness to the works of righteousness [...]

When evil days are upon us, and the worker of malice gains power, we must attend to our own souls and seek to know the ways of the Lord. In those times reverential fear and perseverance will sustain our faith, and we will find need of forebearance and self-restraint as well. Provided that we hold fast to these virtues and look to the Lord, then wisdom, understanding, knowledge and insight will make joyous company with them. “

Happy Birthday, Fr. Jeff! I pray that you continue to have good health, peace of mind, heart and soul, and that you may be blessed with many more years.

I find it a very nice coincidence, really, that Mr. Peter Kwasniewski from NLM (Thank you), today, your birthday, has posted a very interesting article:

Here’s the link:
http://www.newliturgicalmovement.org/2015/08/what-do-people-in-pews-deserve-on-right.html#.VdJFOEpHarU

The last paragraph:

“The measure of our love for our neighbor is how willing we are to share with him what is best — not the mediocre, the bland, the banal, the has-been, the latest fad, or the good enough, but the best. The measure of a pastor’s love will be how eagerly he takes pains to learn what is truly best, to introduce and foster it in his community, and to make it prevail over false progress, grim habit, and tired indifference. This is no time for likes and dislikes; it is a time for love and hatred — love of the sinner and his genuine good, hatred of sin and all obstacles to transformation in Christ.”
